Frequently Asked Questions

What makes The Charlotte Athlete different from traditional PT clinics?

The Charlotte Athlete is an integrated sports rehabilitation and performance practice, not a traditional volume-based PT clinic. Clinicians work in a hybrid environment where manual therapy is seamlessly combined with advanced training, return-to-sport testing, and performance programming. This allows therapists to fully practice at the top of their license while delivering more comprehensive care to athletes.

Is The Charlotte Athlete a cash-based practice? What does that mean?

Yes. The Charlotte Athlete operates as a cash-based model, which allows clinicians to spend more time with each athlete, practice evidence-based care without insurance constraints, spend less time on documentation, and focus on outcomes rather than mass patients. Simply put, it means less burn out and more balance!

What type of athletes do you work with?

We work with a wide range of athletes, including youth, high school, collegiate, professional, recreational, and adult competitive athletes. Our clients are performance-driven individuals who are highly motivated and value high-quality care.

What technology and tools do clinicians use?

Clinicians at The Charlotte Athlete primarily focus on advanced clinical reasoning, manual therapy, and customized exercise prescription to identify and treat to root cause of pain and injuries, for long term success. In addition, clinicians have access to a state-of-the-art performance facility equipped with advanced tools such as force plates, blood flow restriction training, blaze pods, Aussie NMES, sports science technology, turf, and a full strength and conditioning space. This enables comprehensive testing, rehab, and return-to-sport progressions all in one setting.

What does mentorship look like for Sports PTs?

Mentorship is a core part of the culture at The Charlotte Athlete. Clinicians receive direct, one-on-one mentorship from fellowship-trained and dual board-certified physical therapists (SCS, OCS). This includes case discussions, clinical reasoning development, manual therapy training, movement analysis, and advanced sports rehabilitation strategies.

Do you hire new graduate physical therapists?

Yes. We welcome growth-minded new graduates who are eager to learn, develop their clinical skills, and work in a high-performance environment. Strong mentorship and structured professional development are provided to support early-career clinicians.

How is rehab integrated with performance training?

Rehabilitation and performance are not siloed at The Charlotte Athlete. Clinicians transition athletes from root cause clinical reasoning and movement restoration directly into performance training, return-to-sport testing, and high-level programming within the same facility and care model.

What professional development opportunities are available?

Sports PTs are encouraged to pursue continued education, advanced certifications, and specialty training. The clinic fosters a learning environment that emphasizes evidence-based practice, sports science, and ongoing clinical growth. Andrew, the owner of The Charlotte Athlete, is also a lead instructor for the prestigious IAR fellowship program, and has served as a consultant for over 20 professional and collegiate sports teams.

What type of therapist thrives at The Charlotte Athlete?

The ideal Sports PT is passionate about working with athletes, confident in a cash model (requiring sales), excels in communication, comfortable in a performance setting, and eager to grow through mentorship and collaboration. We value curiosity, initiative, and a commitment to excellence.
